My name is Mya Hernandez, a lens-based film and digital artist. Visually capturing stories, sincere documentary photographs, and embracing mixed media components are potent when creating my artwork. In previous projects, I explored themes of past experiences, familial relationships, and emotional distress.
Progressing my artistry, I began to broaden my approaches and incorporate artistic elements outside of photography. Written text, cassette tapes, installations, real-life objects, and hands-on art pieces have allowed me to enhance my work rather than only communicating through a single photograph. As I pursue my career at SVA and in New York, I hope to continue challenging myself artistically and producing new projects to inspire and connect with my audience.
